Microneedling is a cosmetic procedure that involves pricking the skin with tiny sterilized needles. This creates small microinjuries that cause your body to make more collagen and elastin which heal your skin and help you look younger. You may also hear it called collagen induction therapy.

What Happens When You Get Microneedling

Our nurses and physician complete this procedure here at The LOOK Medspa. If you try it somewhere other than a our office, first check on the person’s experience and credentials and make sure that all of the equipment is properly sterilized. There are do-it-yourself versions of microneedling devices, but dermatologists warn against using those because you may accidentally damage your skin.

The entire procedure usually takes about an hour. If you wish to have topical numbing, which we recommend, you will need to arrive 30-40 minutes early. Most people need 3 treatments however one treatment can make your skin look healthier, tighter, and brighter. The goal of the procedure is to start your body’s healing process by sending collagen and elastin to patch up the tiny microinjuries.

Most people get microneedling on the face, but it can also done on other parts of the body, such as your neck, chest, stomach, or thighs.

How is Microneedling with Radio Frequency(RF) different from regular microneedling?

Here at The LOOK MedSpa we use a specialized device called Fractora. Fractora is microneedling that adds the element of radiofrequency energy onto the already productive and stimulating microneedling procedure. The energy is delivered via the small needles to further enhance skin tightening, scar, and wrinkle reduction. The amount of radiofrequency energy (which converts into heat energy) can be adjusted to better suit certain skin conditions or certain areas of the body, and the depth of its application can also be adjusted to reach more base layers of the dermis. The heat stimulates further production of collagen.

Microneedling for Skin Conditions
Microneedling may help with issues like:

  • Acne

  • Hair loss (also called alopecia)

  • Dark spots or patches on your skin (hyperpigmentation)

  • Scars

  • Stretch marks

  • Sun damage

  • Fine lines and wrinkles

What to Consider

There are also some things to keep in mind:

Both procedures are appropriate for all skin types and skin tones, as RF microneedling is “color-blind” — by delivering heat below the skin’s superficial surface, the pigment is protected making this procedure safer with darker skin types. Patients opting for microneedling would require more procedures and would be generally unable to reach the even greater results available with RF microneedling. However, substantial improvement is still possible. Traditional microneedling is good for slower and more subtle rejuvenation. If you are looking for improved results, RF microneedling is recommended for enhancing the overall tone and texture of the skin as it better facilitates the production of collagen and elastin.

Healing time spans from approximately 3-10 days. For an additional charge, you can add PRP(Platelet Rich Plasma). The addition of PRP enhances the overall results and tends to speed the healing process up so a majority of our clients have minimal side effects after 3-5 days. You may have some minor pain post procedure and your skin may be red for a few days. Your skin may also feel tight and flake.

Prices start at $310/per treatment.
